The lip butter is in a tin container, which I usually am not a fan of because they are a bit more difficult to open. However, because the tin is a rather medium-large size, it opens fairly easy. The product itself is super moisturizing and the scent smells just like roses & rose water.

While I was testing this product, I used this oil in place of my daily moisturizer (coconut oil). This oil is very moisturizing, my skin just absorbed this product right up. However, the only thing I wasn't too fond of was the scent of this product.  Jasmine smells great when it's in tea form and thats what I associate it with when I smell it, but wearing the scent is a different story.  I think this is a great body oil, but I would probably use up this entire bottle if it was the 'Citrine' Body Oil since I gravitate towards citrus scents!

Guys, this sea salt spray is EVERYTHING. As some of you may know, I have been on the no-poo (no-shampoo) method for over a year and a half now. The only downfall about no-poo is that your hair doesn't really smell like anything anymore.  This sea salt spray is a GAME CHANGER for me. This makes my hair smell like an island heaven with the mixture of vanilla, lime and coconut :) Looking at the ingredients listed in it below, not only is it safe to spray on your hair, you can use it on your face and as a room scent!  This spray is just absolutely amazing and a must try!  It adds just enough texture to your hair as if you've walked along the beach and your hair absorbed some of that ocean mist.

REVIEW | Dr. Alkaitis Organic Travel Kit

This review is on a skincare line that EcoDiva sent to me called, "Dr. Alkaitis".

Before I begin, if you haven't heard of EcoDiva, they are an online store that allows you to order a variety of the purest, most effective and sustainable products available. They have everything ranging from makeup, hair, skincare and bath & body products.

First off, I just want to show you how EcoDiva packaged me their products so you can get an idea of what your order would look like.  They put your products in this gorgeous black box with a magnetic flap closure which gives this luxurious feel.  Inside, all of the products are safely placed on top of a bed of shredded, crinkled, black paper which is great since those are recyclable!

I had never heard of the brand Dr. Alkaitis until they sent me the products, so I did some research on the brand and I just immediately fell in love with it.

Dr. Alkaitis is not just the name of the brand, but it is also the name of the creator of this amazing skincare line. He is a world-renowned scientist who actually started this brand initially for his wife.

Dr. Alkaitis is a 100% organically grown, raw skincare for all skin types.  Dr. Alkaitis uses certified organic, biodynamic and ethically wild-crafted ingredients in their raw state for the greatest effectiveness.  Everything is made in-house; formulated and manufactured by Dr. Alkaitis himself and his products are NEVER tested on animals.

His products are 100% NATURAL & ORGANIC or wild-crafted, vegan, gender neutral, chemical-free, cruelty free, contains no GMO's, and raw (unheated).

What I love the most about the Dr. Alkaitis skincare line is that their guideline for formulation is:

I absolutely love this guideline because our skin is our largest organ, so whatever you put onto your skin gets absorbed into your body. Therefore, you are essentially eating the products you put on your skin anyways.

The base of this product is organic castile soap, and it is a gentle cleanser. Because it is gentle, I use this as my daily cleanser on days that I don't wear makeup (which is most). On that note, this cleanser is NOT meant to remove makeup, so do not depend solely on this after a night out. I recommend using a makeup remover before this cleanser.

The product has a medium consistency with an orangey-yellow colour. With my experience, the cleanser smells amazing, it has that a sweet-clean scent (thats the best way to describe it, I can't figure it out!) and it left my skin feeling soft and hydrated (but still follow up with a moisturizer!)

The consistency of this toner is watery, and there definitely is a particular way of applying this. One pump into the palm of your hand is enough, and you're going to want to use your other hand to dab the product onto your face. The scent of this toner is pretty much the same as the cleanser but lighter.  What I loved about this toner is that it absorbed quickly into my skin, doesn't leave a residue and it doesn't give you that "tight" feeling on your face.

For those of you with oily skin, you can also use this toner in place of a moisturizer and just end your skincare there and you'd be fine since it is light, and still moisturizing to the skin.

The liquid of this soothing gel is a bit thicker than the toner and it has a gel'y consistency from the aloe. I tested this product on my legs since I do shave my legs the most and found that it did soothe the skin and also added some moisture. Aside from using it for its actual purpose, this soothing gel is also great as a facial moisturizer. Right now, during the summer, this makes a great substitute as a light moisturizer (1 pump).

This oil has an herbally scent but it is a super relaxing. My best way of describing it, is that it smells like a spa. I used this on my face once a week, either on a Wednesday or on the weekend to treat my skin. 1 pump was enough for my face and it leaves your skin feeling super soft, supple and nourished. This oil gets absorbed  nicely into the skin and doesn't leave it feeling greasy.

This day creme has a thick consistency, and I knew exactly what this product smelled like from the first whiff. The scent reminded me of POPSICLES! Yes, that's right. Now with this product, it is not really the right season for me to be using it. The creme is super moisturizing and a little goes a long way, but at the moment my skin doesn't need all this moisture during the summer. If you have dry skin, this product would be perfect for you and your skin will just eat this up! I do plan to use this creme more in the winter when I do have dry skin.

With the night creme, it has a thick consistency (thicker than the day creme) and has a scent very reminiscent of sunblock. This is a great overnight treatment to get some moisture back into your skin, but like the day creme (above),  I can only use this on some nights that are cooler and will mostly use it during the winter.

This eye creme has the lightest consistency between the cremes in the travel kit and has a scent like the day creme just lighter. This product is amazing, I absolutely love this eye creme. It is super moisturizing for the under eyes and I find that it reduces fine lines.

First off, if you are allergic to strawberries, avoid this product!

Unfortunately, I do not think it's right for me to give you guys a review on this product since I don't think I was able to use it enough. This product was the only one in the travel kit where I felt that they didn't give enough of product. I only got to use the mask once, and I believe there is only enough for 2 masks.  For me to give you an honest review on this mask, I feel like I would need to use this for at least a month since you are only recommended to use this once a week (and there's only enough for 2 masks). However, I can tell you about my experience using this mask, and if you do want to know about it watch my video down below where I filmed my mask experience near the end!

Yes. Let's think dirty!

Let's think about how many dirty, toxic, chemicals we use in our daily routine! (Not what you thought this post was going to be about? Whoops)

One day while I was researching about more natural and green products, I came across this app called "Think Dirty". This app allows us to be conscious consumers by informing us about the chemicals in the products we use.  I have been loving this app and use it to help me decide what products to buy depending on the rating that is given.  Go check it out and become a CONSCIOUS CONSUMER :)

How the Rating System Works:

DONUT DATE | Beechwood Donuts

My best friend Molly and I decided it would be a good idea to dedicate one hangout just for donuts and The Mindy Project!

Crazy? Nah.

While I was at work, she stood in line outside in the rain at Beechwood Donuts (because that's how busy they are) to get us a delicious box of donuts.  Now, they don't have just any kind of donuts, they have 100% VEGAN DONUTS!

The variety of flavours that they have is just crazy and unique. The ones Molly got are:

  • Pistachio
  • French Toast
  • Strawberries n' Cream
  • Banana Chocolate Chip Fritter
  • Samoa (salted caramel, toasted coconut and chocolate)
  • S'mores
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Coconut Cream

Unfortunately, the fringe kimono I am wearing in this video got ruined in the wash! :( The fringes completely frayed and I basically had to cut them off and now it's just a sad kimono.

REVIEW | Common Goat Sense (All Natural)

Brittany from the Common Goat Sense reached out to me and asked if I would like to try out some of her products!  Her products are all handmade in small batches and her goats milk soaps are made by using goats milk from her own herd of goats! How cool is that?!

Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Goats Milk

This soap is one of my ultimate favourites to date. The soap is super moisturizing, smells absolutely delicious and the oats that are embedded within the bar are exfoliating to the skin leaving it super soft and silky. I highly recommend trying out this product if you want to try one thing from her Etsy store!

Blackberry Sage Shave Bar |

This shave bar is very unique and definitely different if you are used to using conventional shave foams and creams.  With this bar, lather it in your hands while you're showering and you'll know it's ready when you get a gel-y, goopy consistency that sticks to your hand. Apply this onto your legs and shave away! This product is very moisturizing to the skin as well and doesn't leave your legs feeling dry after stepping out of the shower. Also, the scent of this shave bar is to die for!

Lip Balm (Orange Cream) |

This lip balm might not look like anything special but the product itself is just amazing. First off, if you like the smell of creamsicles, you're going to love this.  It smells like the sweet vanilla mixed with the fresh orange sorbet however, the major plus is that it doesn't taste like anything!  My pet peeve is when I am at the gym and I have a lip product on and I take a swig of my water and it leaves a flavour around the mouth piece which will alter your water experience later. BLEGH! This lip balm on the other hand does not do that! AND it's super moisturizing.

All Purpose Healer Lotion Stick |

A lotion in a stick?! That's what I thought too! Definitely something you don't see all too often but it has come in handy a few times when I forgot to lotion my legs before going out.  What's great about this stick is that it's pretty easy to use, you just apply and rub it in. I also find that because it's in a stick form, it's very travel friendly since it won't explode in your purse! Maybe a great gift for a guy?  I found this lotion stick's scent very similar to the cinnamon hearts that come out around every Valentine's day (which I like)

Hand Sanitizer (Orange Spice) |

This hand sanitizer in comparison to the traditional ones differ in a few ways.  With regular hand sanitizers, I find that it is very cold, dries out your hands and leaves a sticky residue.  With this Common Goat Sense one, because there is no use of alcohol, it actually is very moisturizing from the aloe gel and it also does not have the smell of alcohol. It smells just like orange spice (fall scent)

If you are interested in purchasing any of her products she supplied me with a coupon code for my readers and YouTube Subscribers.  Use the code "YOUTUBE6" and get 10% off of your order! Thank you Brittany :)

*I am NOT getting paid or receiving any incentive if you use the coupon code*

DIY | Wall Canvas Art

In this video, I am showing you simple ways to amp up any blank wall in your house.  In my case, I needed something on my bed wall since it is so plain and white at the moment.  I purchased my canvases (ARTICO) at a store called JYSK where they were only 2 for $16. Super affordable!

  • Canvas (I used 50x100 cm)
  • Paint (Black, Sahara Gold & Champagne from the brand Folk Art)
  • Paint brushes
  • Tape (optional)
  • Pencil (optional)

OOTD | Red Riding Hood

Snapbacks and crew necks aren’t in every girls wardrobe, but if you’re like me and it might not be your everyday style but you absolutely love how comfy it is and the feel of it when wearing this combo, then this is for you!

I actually used to wear this style a lot more when I was in high school sporting my hightop Nike’s, sweat pants and fitted hats.  I was a tom boy.  As I graduated and went off to university, I just kept the sweatpants and casual shirts but didn’t wear my hats as often.  In my second year of university, I joined a dance crew where everyone wore this snapback, baggy sweaters and sweatpants combo.  I eventually ended up wearing this outfit everyday and grew to love it even more while dancing.  Yes, I know it’s not the most girly outfit but it is most certainly… badass (and you don’t have to be badass to pull this off)

Moral of this OOTD, if you like a certain style, WEAR IT.  Don’t think just because you are known for wearing dresses that you can’t try something different. DO NOT restrict yourself to one style. Try it all, and wear it all with confidence. Be known for being you and being versatile.

Although I titled this a spring haul, I received some as birthday gifts and the rest was my excuse to buy the items for myself as a birthday present.... so, yea. Enjoy! haha

RECIPE | Eggcellent Avocado Toast!

Guys this is one of my favourite go-to breakfast recipes! It's so simple yet so delicious!

  • Slice of bread
  • Egg
  • Avocado
  • Lemon
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Coconut Oil

  1. First you are going to want to make your avocado mash. I use half of a large avocado for one piece of toast so get your avocado in a bowl and lightly mash it to your preferred consistency.
  2. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder and a bit of lemon juice to the avocado mash and lightly mix it
  3. Toast your slice of bread
  4. Before cooking your egg, prep your toast by evenly spreading the avocado mash on.
  5. Cook your egg however you prefer (I like it over easy) and transfer your egg on top of your toast
  6. Season it with some salt & pepper and chia seeds if you have any and bon appetit!

TRAVEL | New Orleans Vlog

When I hear "New Orleans" I think of two things: Mardi Gras & food!
I visited NOLA in February 2015 and was there a week before Mardi Gras.  What I didn't know was that they still had parades a week before as a "pre-parade" celebration. It was insane, the roads were packed and they had parades 3 days in a row!

Anyways, I definitely loved my food experience there in New Orleans and I still to this day, crave the beignets from Cafe Du Monde. UGH!  They are soooo delicious and a must try if you decide to visit.

The vlog below is just a short video summarizing my visit and experience there :) Enjoy!

Over 1 Year of No-Poo Method Update!

If you guys have been following me since my Wordpress blog, you would know I started the no-poo method last January 2014.  I have experimented with a couple of different methods and as of March 2015, I have surpassed the one year mark on this no-poo journey.

In this video, I share with you my experiences in the past year and let you know of my new updated method & routine with no-poo.

DIY | Naturally Get Rid of Body Odor!

Sometime in high school I started to develop body odor and I remember having to buy a different deodorant every month because my body would eventually just become immune to the product.  The "Secret" brand deodorant never worked great for me. Their lovely fruity scents smelled great until it was mixed with my sweat and then it was no longer lovely.  After years and years of being very self conscious of my body scent and would avoid the upper hug (arms over the other person's shoulders) I decided to look for a natural alternative.  This all started because of my no-poo (no shampoo) journey since I was loving the natural methods and results.  One day while researching a remedy, I came across a site that recommended lemons!  I was skeptical since it is acidic but I read so many great reviews and results from just using this one ingredient that I had to try it for myself.

After about a week, I started to notice my body odor disappear and it was not as strong.  My boyfriend who finds it cute that I produce more odor than he can was shocked at my results after using lemons!

If you want to try this method, here are a few instructions and tips:

- Lemon OR Lime (whatever you prefer)

  1. Using a knife, cut a thin slice or wedge (you don't need a lot)
  2. Apply the slice/wedge directly to your armpit
  3. Let it air dry or lightly pat dry with a paper towel
  4. DONE!

  • If you have sensitive skin, apply the lemon/lime wedge directly but remove the solution after 5-10 mins
  • If you find that you still have sensitive skin, squeeze a the lemon/lime juice and dilute it with water and apply with a cotton pad, or spray bottle
  • If you are STILL sensitive, dilute the lemon/lime juice with water and apply then remove the solution from your armpits after 5-10 mins
  • **DO NOT** apply the lemon/lime solution to your armpits if you plan on sun tanning and exposing your pits to the sun.

FOOD FINDS | Detroit, MI.

October 6, 2014

I was just in Detroit about a week and a half ago to see John since he is touring with the National Broadway production of Annie!

John on tour just means me travelling out to see him and going on great adventures to find amazing food.  I would just like to take the time here to share some of the delicious plates of food we had on this mini trip.

The first of many stops was “New Center Eatery.”  This busy restaurant was located right across from the St. Regis Hotel where we were staying.  Their system for ordering was a little different.  You stand in line, order and pay for your food at the cashier,  take your table number, seat yourself at an open table (if there is one), the waiter/waitress will look at your receipt and bring your food once ready.  Now for the mouth-watering part… they are known for their chicken and waffles dish.  I never tried such a thing and decided that day was the day!

Oh nelly, was this the best unhealthy plate I could have asked for.  The waffles come out hot and fresh with a nice crunchy crust and a fluffy interior.  You may think the combination of waffles, strawberries, maple syrup and chicken tastes weird but you have to try it before you judge!  The chicken… ohhhhhh my, the chicken. It was deliciously crispy with enough seasoning to not overpower your waffles.  What I recommend is to pay the extra $0.50 for more berries. Also, if you like your waffles crispy, pour some of the syrup on the side and dip your waffle in it (which is what I ended up doing for the other 2 plates I had while I was in Detroit).

The New Center Eatery stays open pretty late, and is a perfect greasy spoon to hit up after a few drinks at the karaoke bar.  *TIP* If you order your chicken & waffle combo between the hours of 5pm – 10pm they only charge $5 per plate. During earlier hours the dish will cost you $10.50 (but it’s so worth it if you can’t make it during the special hours).

My second last day in Detroit, John had a “Golden Day” (the day off) and we had tickets to see a NHL Preseason game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at the Joe Louis Arena (3-0 Detroit).  After having many breakfasts and late dinners at the New Center Eatery, we wanted to opt for more fine food before the game.  John found this place on Yelp called “Wright & Co.” the name sounds more like a publishing company than a restaurant, but don’t let that stop you.  The food here is AMAZING!  Wright & Co. is a gastropub serving small plates of deliciousness.
*WARNING* you may start drooling on your keyboard.

FIRST PLATE – Charcuterie Board

I wish I could remember the types of cheeses on this board but I know the bottom one was a type of blue cheese.  The bread was perfectly toasted with a nice crunch.  The orange marmalade went well with everything!  ugh. just look. You just have to go try it to know how good this was.

SECOND PLATE –  Heirloom Tomatoes Salad

Anytime I see tomato, mozzarella, and basil on a menu, my stomach immediately craves it.  When this plate came out, I had to admire their take on this gorgeous salad.  Wright & Co. made a basil concoction that was addicting and topped the plate off with micro basils. THE PLATING! how could you not stare at this plating.  The olive oil perfectly outlines the bed of salad, and the pillows of basil sauce evenly distributed under tomatoes. SO GOOD.

THIRD PLATE – Sriracha Chicken Skewers

Do I even have to explain this one?  Sriracha in anything tastes amazing!!

FOURTH PLATE – Sauteed Sea Scallops

Sweet corn, asparagus, and chive beurre blanc.  I love corn, but I never would have ever thought to make this combination. The salt in the scallops with the sweetness in the corn and the creamy sauce. HEAVEN in a bite.

FIFTH PLATE – Dessert | Chocolate Panna Cotta

Mmm. Chocolate, with fresh raspberries, raspberry sauce and almond brittle. An unreal combination of fresh, crunchy and decadent. John and I could only eat 3/4 of this and we were stuffed.

The atmosphere in Wright & Co. was very hip with metal ceiling fans being rotated by bungee cords, exposed brick walls, and groovy music.  It would have to be on my list of MUST VISIT for those of you who plan to go to Detroit or live there. Our bill came to about $54 for 2 people and all this variety of food.  Don’t let the “small plates” deceive you.  I thought what we ordered wasn’t going to be enough for the both of us until we left and I realized I could barely walk with the food baby I was carrying.

I hope you liked this post!  I thoroughly enjoyed my visit in Detroit and the food I got to experience.  I have video footage of my visit there and might be posting a vlog with shots of each of these restaurants.  If I end up publishing the video I’ll attach it to the bottom of this blog post.

Let me know if any of you decide to hit up these amazing food spots and tell me what you think!
